Planing

Planing takes a thin layer off one or more faces of a part.

When to use it

Use planing when the part must be clean or to exact size on some faces, for example visible posts and beams. Planing belongs to the part, not to one face: switch each face on or off in the fields.

Add a planing

Section titled “Add a planing”
  1. Select the part in the Parts list.
  2. Under Extra processings, click Add.
  3. Type plan in the search field and pick Planing.
  4. Leave Position X at 0 and Length at To the end to plane the whole part, or set both to plane a stretch.
  5. Set Depth and switch Bottom, Back, Top and Front on or off.
  6. Check that the part shows a green check. If not, open the Issues tab.

BTL status describes what the specification can represent. CAMBIUM imported our earlier BTL test files; confirmation applies to the tested forms and build. See BTL coverage for representation and receiver caveats.

  • Chamfer: Chamfer the lengthwise edges of a part. Choose the edges, the size and the run-out, and see how each machine format exports it.
  • Marking: Scribe a line across a face to mark a position for assembly. Angle and single or double style, with defaults and machine export.
  • Draw a contour: Draw a free contour on a face with pen, curvature, rectangle and circle tools, or import it from an SVG file. Exact arcs, snapping and typed sizes.
  • Parts editor: Edit parts in the Parts view: profile, length, end shapes and extra processings, with 2D and 3D drawings and a live validity check.
  • Document a new processing: When the app gains a processing type, the docs build fails until it has a page. Add the page, its group and its export row.
  • Processing index: Every processing in Boomkikker at a glance: drillings, notches, mortises, tenons, joints and markings. Filter by group and level.
