Japanese mortise
A Japanese mortise is the socket of a Japanese tenon: the same neck and head, cut into the end of the other part, so the two parts splice end to end.
When to use it
Section titled “When to use it”Put it on the end that takes the tenon, with the same numbers as the tenon: the same neck, head, taper and lap.

Add a Japanese mortise
Section titled “Add a Japanese mortise”- Select the part in the Parts list.
- Under Extra processings, click Add.
- Type
japanesein the search field and pick Japanese mortise. - Set Face, End, Shoulder (x) and Centre Y: the shoulder is the end face it runs in from.
- Copy the neck, the head, the taper and the lap from the tenon.
- Check that the part shows a green check. If not, open the Issues tab.
Machine export
Section titled “Machine export”BTLx writes every field and the export notes that it rests on the BTLx manual alone. BVN writes operation 1714 in the shop’s test pack only, with one width; the rest of the shape is the machine’s tool. BVX and BTL have no element for it: the export lists it as a machining loss.
| Format | Status | Details |
|---|---|---|
| BTLx | Partly supported | JapaneseMortise with every field, read back on import. Written from the BTLx manual alone, so the export notes that without blocking. |
| BVN (Hundegger) | Partly supported | Experimental, included with a warning unless you leave it out: operation 1714, which carries one width, the taper, the flat bottom, the offset and the lap; the rest of the shape is the machine's tool. |
| BVX2 (Hundegger) | Not written | No BVX element for a Japanese mortise is known: it is listed as a machining loss. |
| BTL 10.6 | Not written | BTL has no Japanese mortise process: it is left out with a loss. |
BTL status describes what the specification can represent. CAMBIUM imported our earlier BTL test files; confirmation applies to the tested forms and build. See BTL coverage for representation and receiver caveats.
