Rebate or groove

Deze inhoud is nog niet vertaald.

A rebate is a step cut along an arris, open onto the face beside it. A groove is a channel in a face between two walls. Either runs the whole length of the part or part of it, with square walls or a closed wall that slopes open toward the face.

Rebate or groove. Drawn by the editor's own geometry code; right: the carved part in 3D.
  • A rebate for a panel, a pane of glass or a board of cladding to sit in.
  • A groove for a panel or a spline to slide into.
  • Tongue and groove: a tongue is two rebates, one on each arris of the same face; the groove is a groove.
  • A double groove is two grooves side by side.
  • A sloped wall where a bead or a pane should lean into its seat.

For a recess that stops inside the face on every side, use a pocket. For a notch across the part, use a lap.

The card shows a drawing, Place, Size / shape, Lean / turn, then All values. Pick the face and the opening edge on the section pictures. Wall lean is measured from square: 0° is square, and 10° opens the wall toward the face. Quick picks and Make square keep that setting easy to change. All values retains the format angle, so a 10° lean reads as 100° there. The joint designer uses the same controls and signs.

Splinter-freeMachine default, Off, Tool pathMachine defaultMachining that keeps the edges from splintering. Machine default writes what each file normally has for that operation. BVX and BVN carry an explicit choice where the operation has the setting, and the export says so where it does not. BTLx has no such setting.

Default: what Add fills in on a 3000 mm part of 120 x 120 mm.

Opens onto chooses the arris: one of the two faces beside the face it is on, or none, which makes it a groove.

  1. Select the part in the Parts list.
  2. Under Extra processings, click Add.
  3. Type rebate or groove in the search field and pick Rebate or groove. It starts as a 20 × 20 mm rebate along the front arris of the top face, the whole length of the part.
  4. Set Face and Opens onto. Pick None: a groove for a groove, and set Position Y.
  5. Set Width and Depth. For part of the length, set Position X and Length.
  6. Check that the part shows a green check. If not, open the Issues tab.

In the 2D view you can drag the walls and the depth, and the ends of one that stops inside the part.

FormatStatusDetails
BTLxPartly supportedA rebate or groove with square walls as a Lap with its limits, one with a sloped wall as a Pocket with its walls tilted. Both are forms other programs read, so on import it comes back as that lap or pocket: the same shape, no longer a rebate.
BVN (Hundegger)Partly supportedA rebate as operation 1501 and a groove as operation 1500, along the whole part or part of it, with a note in the file: CAMBIUM read all of them as meant. A sloped wall needs operation 0320 of a K2 and is listed as a machining loss.
BVX2 (Hundegger)Partly supportedA rebate along the whole part as a Step running along it, a groove as a Slit, and a square-walled rebate stopped at one or both ends as a Pocket touching the face edge, with a note in the file. The stopped rebate must meet the part and stay below the section depth. These forms match the stock removed by CAMBIUM's native conversions; our BVX output is not yet confirmed on a controller. Sloped walls remain experimental and are included with a warning unless you leave them out. A sloped wall that stops, or a sloped groove, is listed as a machining loss.
BTL 10.6Supported032 through or stopped rebates and grooves; 250 associated contours preserve sloped walls.
MachineSpecialised machineA sloped wall needs a five-axis head, such as on a Hundegger ROBOT-Drive or K2. A rebate or groove with square walls any machine cuts. Which machine can cut it.

BTL status describes what the specification can represent. CAMBIUM imported our earlier BTL test files; confirmation applies to the tested forms and build. See BTL coverage for representation and receiver caveats.

BTLx writes one with square walls as a Lap with its limits and one with a sloped wall as a Pocket with that wall tilted. Other programs read both, so a rebate read back from BTLx comes in as that lap or pocket: the same shape, no longer a rebate.

BVX and BVN include supported rebates and grooves in ordinary exports. A form the shop has not confirmed carries a warning, and you can leave it out and inspect the export preview. BVX writes a rebate along the whole part as a Step running along it, a sloped wall included, one that stops as a Pocket and a groove as a Slit. BVN writes a rebate as operation 1501 and a groove as operation 1500. A sloped wall needs operation 0320, tilted as only a K2 with the five-axis mill reads, so BVN lists it as a machining loss, as BVX does for a sloped wall that stops or a sloped groove. A sloped wall needs a five-axis head on any machine: the card labels it Specialised machine (which machine can cut it).
