Conic chamfer

A conic chamfer turns one end of a part into a cone about its axis. Everything outside the cone is taken off.

Conic chamfer. Drawn by the editor's own geometry code; right: the carved part in 3D.

Use it for a turned foot, a post end that should not splinter, or the round end of a part that fits into a bored hole. A large diameter only takes the corners off; a small one gives a pointed taper.

Endstart, endstartThe end of the part the cone is turned at.
Diameter at the endmmfrom 196The cone's diameter in the end face.
Flank angle°1 to 8930The flank against the part's axis: small is a long, slender taper, large a short one.

Default: what Add fills in on a 3000 mm part of 120 x 120 mm.

  1. Select the part in the Parts list.
  2. Under Extra processings, click Add.
  3. Type conic in the search field and pick Conic chamfer.
  4. Pick the End.
  5. Set Diameter at the end and Flank angle. The cone widens into the part until it clears the corners.
  6. Check that the part shows a green check. If not, open the Issues tab.

BTLx, BVN and BTL have no processing for a cone at a part end: they list it on the part for finishing by hand. BVX writes a cone at the start of the part in the shop test pack only, as a ConicChamfer read from the one public file that holds one, until the shop confirms how CAMBIUM measures it.

FormatStatusDetails
BTLxNot writtenBTLx has no processing that turns a cone at a part end. Listed on the part for finishing by hand.
BVN (Hundegger)Not writtenBVN has no operation that turns a cone at a part end. Listed on the part for finishing by hand.
BVX2 (Hundegger)Partly supportedExperimental, included with a warning unless you leave them out: a cone at the start of the part, as a ConicChamfer read from one public file. A cone at the far end is not written yet.
BTL 10.6Not writtenNo BTL 10.6 record turns a cone at a part end: omitted with a loss.

BTL status describes what the specification can represent. CAMBIUM imported our earlier BTL test files; confirmation applies to the tested forms and build. See BTL coverage for representation and receiver caveats.
