End-grain contour

Deze inhoud is nog niet vertaald.

An end-grain contour is a free shape milled straight into one of the two ends of a part, to a depth along the grain.

End-grain contour. Drawn by the editor's own geometry code, in the end view as seen from outside; right: the carved part in 3D, seen from that end.

Use it for a seat no rectangle makes: a shaped base plate, an L-shaped connector, a slot with round ends. For a rectangular plate seat the End-grain recess is simpler, and a round hole is an End-grain bore.

The outline is drawn as you see the end from outside, with the top up, so a shape means the same at both ends. Its corners and the rise of each side are edited under the fields, as for a Free contour, and Height (from the bottom) and Width (from the back) place the point the outline is drawn about; Centre in the section puts the whole shape in the middle. A corner that points out of the shape keeps the radius of the mill; the card offers to round it or to give it a dog bone. See End faces.

Only a square end with no joint running out of it takes work; an end that does not is greyed out in the Face list, with the reason.

Default: what Add fills in on a 3000 mm part of 120 x 120 mm.

  1. Select the part in the Parts list.
  2. In the drawing, pick Face at start or Face at end under Side.
  3. Under Extra processings, click Add and pick End-grain contour. A slot with round ends goes into the middle of that end.
  4. Edit its corners, or pick a starting shape.
  5. Set Depth (along the grain).
  6. Check that the part shows a green check. If not, open the Issues tab.

A free contour on a long face moves into an end when you pick an end in its Face list, and back: it keeps its shape as seen from outside.

FormatStatusDetails
BTLxPartly supportedFreeContour on reference side 5 or 6. No BTLx file shows one in an end yet, so it is placed as on a long face, and the export notes this without blocking.
BVN (Hundegger)Not writtenBVN has no general contour in an end. Experimental, included with a warning unless you leave them out: a contour that is exactly one round hole, as that hole (operation 0401).
BVX2 (Hundegger)Partly supportedAs the end work it is made of: a round contour in the middle of the start face goes out as the start hole, not yet confirmed; the export notes this without blocking. A contour made of other end-grain bores and recesses is experimental and included with a warning only, and any other is listed as a machining loss.
BTL 10.6Supported250 end contour in a rigid reference plane, preserving arcs.

BTL status describes what the specification can represent. CAMBIUM imported our earlier BTL test files; confirmation applies to the tested forms and build. See BTL coverage for representation and receiver caveats.
