End-grain mortise

Deze inhoud is nog niet vertaald.

An end-grain mortise is a rectangular hole straight into one of the two ends of a part, along the grain.

End-grain mortise. Drawn by the editor's own geometry code, in the end view as seen from outside; right: the carved part in 3D, seen from that end.

Use it where a tenon enters a part along its grain, or for a connector that sits in the end of a part. For the seat of a let-in base plate use the End-grain recess instead: CAMBIUM mills a mortise with its own mortise strategy and allowances, which a plate seat does not want.

The two ends are Face at start and Face at end. Height (from the bottom) and Width (from the back) place the middle of the mouth in the section. Length along says whether its length runs up the height or across the width, and Depth (along the grain) runs into the part from its end. See End faces.

Only a square end with no joint running out of it takes work; an end that does not is greyed out in the Face list, with the reason.

Default: what Add fills in on a 3000 mm part of 120 x 120 mm.

  1. Select the part in the Parts list.
  2. In the drawing, pick Face at start or Face at end under Side.
  3. Under Extra processings, click Add and pick End-grain mortise. It goes into the middle of that end.
  4. Set Length along, then Length, Width and Depth (along the grain) to the size of the tenon.
  5. Drag it into place, or set Height (from the bottom) and Width (from the back).
  6. Check that the part shows a green check. If not, open the Issues tab.

A mortise on a long face moves into an end when you pick an end in its Face list, and back. Turned in its end, an end-grain mortise goes a quarter at a time, and Length along swaps.

FormatStatusDetails
BTLxPartly supportedMortise on reference side 5 or 6. A mortise off the middle, or one whose length runs up the height, is placed as the BTLx manual defines those sides, and the export notes this without blocking. Allowances give a warning.
BVN (Hundegger)Partly supportedExperimental, included with a warning unless you leave it out. Operation 0504 is being tested in the shop.
BVX2 (Hundegger)Partly supportedExperimental, included with a warning unless you leave it out. How CAMBIUM places a mortise in an end is being tested in the shop.
BTL 10.6Partly supported051 front mortise with asymmetric margins, shape and radius. Allowances are omitted.

BTL status describes what the specification can represent. CAMBIUM imported our earlier BTL test files; confirmation applies to the tested forms and build. See BTL coverage for representation and receiver caveats.
